A couple of days ago, I read a Paul Graham tweet which talked about his conversation with his ten year old son on failures. Some of the reactions to that tweet were overtly critical. He was criticised for talking to his child about entrepreneurship and failing while he was a child. Some said his son may not even want to be an entreprenur or may not be suited to become an entrepreneur!
Parenting is a tough job, indeed! But what I really want to talk about is failures. I want to hear from you what you think about failures. Do you talk to your children about failures, or hold back for fear that this might depress or negatively colour their outlook on life or view of the world?
We have all failed somewhere, right? Is there one of you who has never failed? What does failure mean - academic, professional, personal? Think about it all and tell me how failure (or the lack of it) has shaped you?
With the EconHistorienne newsletter, I look at culture and how it shapes economies, business and life. Failure too is a notion much shaped by culture. I’ll write more about this in a newsletter soon, but today, I want to hear from you what you think.
Thank you, and looking forward to hearing from you.
